EVANGELICAL VIEW ON BIG BROTHER NIGERIA REALITY SHOW

EVANGELICAL VIEW ON BIG BROTHER NIGERIA REALITY SHOW

The first season of big brother  Nigeria reality show started in South Africa by Multichoice on 5th of March 2006, the second season started eleven years later  in January 2017 and since then it has not been missed annually. The first edition to be done in Nigeria started 2019. it it has been attracting viewers majorly young people from different African countries. During the period of airing, attention is shifted on the social media to the show trending from Twitter, Instagram to Facebook with  people gathering and generating votes for their fans in the house which is by sending a text which cost thirty naira or through digital votes allocated by multichoice the owner of dstv and gotv. It is a game in which prize worth millions of naira are to be won by the winner. Viewers at home who are the spectators determine who will stay and who will go until this edition when the rule changes and allow the members in the house to also have a say on who is to be evicted.

Attention have been drawn by various religious groups to the immorality going on there which is degrading morals in our society. Well the show is censored, meaning anyone less than eighteen cannot watch it but majority of the people watching the show fall into the age range of 11-45. I could remember vividly while teaching students of ss3  sometimes last year, they were busy discussing the show in details, they are less than 18 years of age. The question is where are their parents while watching it. In another vein while walking along the road I saw three secondary school female girls, average age of fourteen discussing the moments they enjoyed in the last bbnaija and cannot wait for this year edition to start. It is no longer news that morals is eroding in this present generation. morals and decency is gradually fading away. Youths, teenagers, even children are the most affected. They are the hope of tomorrow but how will tomorrow be if the present youths are already corrupted and indiscipline. The big brother reality show is a reflection or picture of what is going on in a Nigeria society. An average bbnaija house member need a platform to be known for what he knows how to do best. They want to be a brand name. They have good plans having gone through serious audition before they were selected. They have all the fun in the house as responsible adults but in the process immoralities may be involved.

These people are not saints they are part of our society. Whatever happens there we are to be blamed. Is this shocking? They are your neighbors you refuse to witness to, your work mate you refuse to tell about christ, they are the ones you castigated that they were going to hell and now you are complaining that it is an immoral show influencing your children negatively. There was a town that they do not drink or sell alcohol in the 18th century, a visitor came in and was looking for where to get alcohol, in amazement he ask" why is there no alcohol store here "and the young man replied John Wesley passed through this place. Where are the John Wesley, Sunday Graham, Billy Graham, Smith wigglesforth Dwight Moody, Joseph Ayo Babalola of our generation. Their message changed lives, let us rise and reach out to the children, teenagers, and youths of our generation. Enough of complaining about immoral TV shows, the young are dying daily in their sins. Heaven is not happy about it and he is asking me and you that what are you doing about it. If we teach and preach the gospel truth that change lives, there will be no audition for such shows and people will not go because they have had a changed minds. As pastors, general overseers, what platform are you creating for your youths for them to express their God given gifts. In all the editions of big brother Nigeria, a good percentage of Christians were there, they attend churches but someone have failed to teach and disciple them. We have Christian CEOs supporting the shows but when beckon on by the church to support Christian concert for youths or assist in buying musical instruments in training of the church youth choir they give excuses because they are short sighted to see that are investing in the kingdom business. Bishop Idahosa of blessed memory sponsored many youths in the church to university, he single handedly sponsor album song of church members. They had the talent but he gave them the platform to be known. This is a clarion call not to give up on our youths, We have remnants, mighty warriors, great evangelist and many more among those you may have written off that God is willing to use mightily for his work.
